To bridge the widening gap between the formal system of education and the country’s rich and varied cultural traditions, the India International Rural Cultural Centre has launched a nationwide series of classical dance and music. The series comprises 300 recitals of classical dance and music. IRCEN will showcase the series in Delhi, Goa, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Uttar Pradesh through this year to give students a chance to interact with artistes when they perform in their schools. The idea behind the whole exercise, according to the organizers, is to create awareness about the country’s rich cultural traditions among students.
