MULTI-CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Exposing Youth to India’s Cultural Diversity through Multi-Cultural Activities
|
As in the past, in 178 schools and colleges nationwide, lecture-performances on Indian Classical Dances & Music by noted performing Artists were organized. The series commenced from 14th July 2017 and continued till
15th February 2018 covering schools & colleges of Delhi, Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh), South Goa, North Goa, Raipur, Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur (Punjab) and Bellary (Karnataka). We thankfully acknowledge cooperation of Performing Artists - Smt. Asavari Pawar, Pt. Bholanath Mishra, Parul Mishra, Paulami Guha, Sreeparna Chakraborty, Anjana Ramesh Sarma, Shinjini Kulkarni, Ipsita Chatterjee, Radhika Ganju Sehgal, Bimbavati Devi, Rachna Yadav, Shreyasi Gopinath, Vani Madhav, Priti M. Tiwari, T. Reddi Lakshmi, Tabasmi Paul Majumdar, Moumita Ghosh, Ipsita Chatterjee, Amartyya Chatterjee, Debjaya Sarkar & Ritusri Chaudhuri for their presentations before young students. Their presentations were highly appreciated.

IRCEN 38th Anniversary was celebrated on 14th October 2017. Celebration function was held at Amphitheatre, IRCEN Bhawan. The students of School of Performing & Fine Art (SPFA) presented their recitals of Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Hindustani Vocal, Violin, Casio and Tabla. Exhibition of drawings and paintings by Fine Art students was also displayed. All the talented students were praised for their performances by the august audience. Shri R.K. Mishra, IAS (Retd.) inaugurated the Anniversary. Member Secretary of IRCEN,

2-day IRCEN Festival of Music & Dance ‘PRAVAH’

PRAVAH in Punjab
i) IRCEN festival of Classical Dances & Music “PRAVAH” was organized in Chandigarh (Punjab) on
8th August 2017. Smt. Revathi Srinivasraghavan and her group from Mumbai presented Bharatanatyam dance recital. Good number of audience attended the festival and applauded the performance by the artists.
PRAVAH in Kerala
ii) IRCEN festival of Classical Dances & Music “PRAVAH” was organized in Kannur (Kerala) on
8th September 2017. Smt. Madhumita Roy and her group from Kolkata presented Kathak dance recital.
Good number of audience attended the festival and applauded the performance by the artists.
PRAVAH in Goa
iii) 2-day Annual IRCEN festival of Classical Dances & Music ‘PRAVAH’ was organized in Panaji (Goa) on
8th & 9th October 2017. Smt. Padmalaksshme Suresh and her group from Chennai presented Bharatanatyam on 8th October and Kathak danseuses Sohini Debnath & Debashree Bhattacharya and her troupe from Kolkata performed Kathak dance in group choreography on 9th October. Each day good number of audience attended the festival and applauded the performances by the artists.

Sham-E-Holi – A Community Festival
|
Each year IRCEN celebrates ‘SHAM-E-HOLI ‘ on the eve of Holi by presenting Hori Songs before the august audience, so as to promote a sense of community living. On 1st March 2018, a programme of Kathak Dance Recital presented by Ms. Ritusri Chaudhuri and her group enthralled the audience with rendition of Hori Songs. The programme was followed by dinner to all those who attended the event.

One day National Seminar on “Cultural Exposure Among Rural Youth” was organized from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on Saturday, the 10th March 2018 at Hall No.1, IRCEN Bhawan, Vasant Kunj. The Seminar had a total number of 8 Speakers from the State of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Goa, West Bengal and Maharastra. There were 2 Speakers each from Uttrakhand and Delhi. Shri H.L. Tiku, President, IRCEN, delivered welcome address and Shri R.K. Mishra, IAS (Retd.) inaugurated the Seminar and delivered key-note address.
There was a good coverage given to Seminar by Doordarshan which was broadcasted on T.V. at 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday, the 13th March 2018 on National Channel of Doordarshan. It was well attended Seminar and topic itself was attractive which dealt with the question of rural youth of the day taking part in the cultural events organized by different groups in their respective areas.

School of Performing & Fine Art
|
School of Performing & Fine Art (SPFA), a subsidiary unit of ‘India International Rural Cultural Centre’ has been continuously running within the premises of the Centre. It has well qualified professional faculty who impart training to the students. About 350 students are imparted training in different styles of classical dances, music & fine art as follows:-
1. DANCE - Kathak, – Ritusri Chaudhuri, Yamika Mahesh , Nisha Daundiyal
Bharatanatyam – Mala Murli
Odissi - Paulami Guha
Kuchipudi – Sree Veena Mani
2. MUSIC - Hindustani Vocal, Carnatic Vocal – Debjani Bhattacharya
3. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC – Tabla, Violin, Casio Harmonium, Sitar – Suresh Kumar, Debjani Bhattacharya
4. FINE ART - Creative and Applied – Jesmine Begum, Suchismita Sahoo
Annual Examinations were conducted in two batches on 15th June 2017 & 18th January 2018. External Examiners were invited for this purpose. Examiners are included Padmashri Kanaka Srinivasan (Bharatanatyam), Parul Mishra (Kathak), Kalyani Behera (Odissi), Bholanath Mishra (Hindustani Vocal, Violin, Tabla & Casio), Kalicharan Gupta (Fine Art), Vani Madhav (Odissi), Kamalini Dutt (Bharatanatyam), Aruna Subramaniam (Kuchipudi), Prof. L.K. Pandit (Hindustani Vocal, Violin, Tabla & Casio).

Musical Dance Ballet VEER ABHIMANYU |
i) Musical Dance Ballet “VEER ABHIMANYU’ choreographed and directed by professional Kathak dancer Ms. Rani Khanam alongwith her 15 co-dancers was staged in Amphitheatre on Saturday, the 30th March 2018 at 6.30 p.m. at IRCEN Bhawan, 7, Nelson Mandela Road, Institutional Area, C-1, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi-110070. Good number of audience attended the Dance Ballet and applauded the performance by the artists. |

ARTLAND |
IRCEN continued publication of its journal ARTLAND which contains interviews with Ambassadors & High Commissioners of different countries on socio-cultural conditions prevailing in their respective country. The publication deals with issues relating to socio-cultural conditions prevailing in different countries. ARTLAND has a good number of readers who are spread all over the world. |
