Mass involvement
Organizations like the India
International Rural Cultural Centre
are doing commendable work in promoting
cultural awareness in the villages,
Writes ARUNA SRINIVASAN
If you are one of those who are disgruntled that our cultural activities are concentrated in big cities alone and seldom percolate down to the masses, take heart. Culture does stretch out to rural areas too, albeit on a low profile. Organizations like India International Rural Cultural Centre (IIRCC), a Delhi based outfit are doing a tremendous job in villages, promoting cultural awareness. Says Member Secretary, Mr.P.L.Varma, “The main objective of the Organization is to inculcate cultural awareness and art appreciation among the rural population of India.” It is important that our rural people understand our cultural heritage and imbibe high values of life. India International Rural Cultural Centre is involved in other areas too. To promote national integration, it organizes summer and winter camps every year, sponsoring various cultural activities. This year for instance, about 450 students will pour over from all over India at the Motilal Nehru School of Sports in village Rai near Sonepat in June, for a cultural camp.
