‘Ensure transparency to end controversy on awards’

India International Rural Cultural Centre (IRCEN) is organizing a seminar on ‘Art, Artistes & Awards’ on Saturday, Eminent artistes, social activists, art lovers and university professors have been invited. Speaking to reporters on the eve of the seminar, some of the artistes scheduled to address the meet said the only way to put an end to the controversies surrounding award ceremonies is to ensure transparency…… The artistes also felt that the press has a big responsibility in ensuring transparency. Said IRCEN Member Secretary, P.L.Varma: “Press often repeats a handful of names daily, making people to think only these few are great artistes.” But, he said, there are many lesser known artistes, specially those associated with folk art-forms and the press should highlight them too.
